Back Pain Q&A

What is the Cause of Back Pain?

Back pain, especially lower back pain, is very common today. Most people deal with it at some point in their lives. The reason for the pain may vary, but for most people, the cause is not serious or life-threatening. Some of the possible causes of back pain include herniated disc, postural issues, facet syndrome, sciatica, spondylolisthesis, and muscle strain. Overweight or obese people can develop back pain due to the added strain that weight puts on the lower spinal column. In some cases, it is not possible to identify the origin of the back pain, but it can always be treated in a non-invasive way with chiropractic care.

How is Back Pain Treated?

Back pain is treated on an individual basis, based on Dr. Idrogo's evaluation. A physical exam of the back is usually performed first, which allows Dr. Idrogo to identify any specific problem areas in the back. X-ray images may also be used to help in making a specific diagnosis. Once Dr. Idrogo has identified where the back pain is coming from, he can design a treatment plan that includes precise spinal adjustments for pain relief. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Idrogo may prescribe massage therapy with the Centered Health & Wellness massage therapist, Michelle Wilson. Other non-invasive options that Centered Health & Wellness offers for back pain relief include mirror image spinal remodeling and instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation.

Can Back Pain Go Away if Untreated?

In most situations, back pain will continue and even worsen if it is not treated. There is usually some type of spinal alignment issue connected to the back pain and spinal alignment tends to worsen if not corrected. Back pain may temporarily disappear without treatment if medication is used, but it will soon be back in full force. The best way to make sure that back pain goes away is to treat it at its origins, which is the goal of chiropractic care.
